Baby Shower

This cake is for a very special person. I made it for my cooperating teacher (the teacher that taught me so much of what I know now about teaching). Every cake I ever make her has to be chocolate. So when her baby showered was planned, yep- I made it chocolate. The baby was formed out of fondant and is laying on a "blanket" of fondant.

Dracula! aah, aah, aah, aah

My neighbor found out that I make cakes and asked if I would make some cupcakes for her son's birthday party. He wanted a Halloween theme. I suggested Dracula, ghosts, and jack-o-laterns. Dracula won.

For Aidan!

My nephew just turned two. We were going to have a party for
him a few weeks ago, but the Friday before the big day he ended
up having to have some surgery. So my family finally got together
today and I was able to make him this cake. I found my inspiration on
my favorite cake blog: The Pink Cake Box. It looks so much better
than this, but I have a lot to learn. I am still very happy with the
way it turned out. My nephew loves to play with bouncy balls so as a
gift, I filled the dump truck up with all kinds of them. I ended up buying too
many. The ones that wouldn't fit in there ended up being his favorite!
Happy Birthday little guy!
The fondant that I make is really soft. So I am doing an experiment
to see how long it needs to air dry to do the things I would like to do.
For example, the cake I was imitating had the back of the dump truck lifted
off the cake in dumping mode. The fondant was too soft so I couldn't do that.
I will see if I can fix it or I might have to find a new recipe.

Go Seminole Indians!

I don't know if you will be able to see this one well or not.
My sister had her twenty year class reunion and she
asked me to do the cake. I used my overhead projector
to pipe in the Indian head. I know my free hand is
still little to be desired, but practice makes you better.
I am still working on it.

Baby Shower Cake

This cake was made for one of my friend's at school. She loves chocolate cake! So I granted her wish. Her daughter's initials are on the top of the cake.

Misc.

A teacher at school requested a wedding cake. As you can see there were special instructions. It needed to look 40-50 years old and be crawling with little nasties. I put little spider webs on it with spiders all over it. There are candy mice crawling on and in it. The students later added the gummy worms. I also added green food coloring to the butter cake so when they cut into it, it looked molded. What can I say, YUM!! Okay, not so much!
My best friend was having a cake walk at her church's fall festival. She requested a pumpkin cake. I did my best!

A friend of mine is a teacher and she teaches a unit about Egypt. At the end of her unit she presented her class with an Egyptian pyramid filled with chocolate goodies! They loved it! This is butter cake with buttercream icing sprinkled with brown sugar.

This cake was for my in-laws anniversary. I had never made a three layered cake before. Needless to say, I learned my lesson with this one. I did make each layer a different flavor-white, chocolate, and strawberry.

This was one of my first attempts using my cake overhead projector. The next cake I made had ballerina slippers in each corner and the words in the middle. You learn something new with each cake you make.

My best friend's son had a bowling party so only bowling pins would do!

Batman Cake: buttercream icing with fondant decorations.

Who doesn't love Scooby Doo! I used my airbrush machine on this one. It is also covered in buttercream icing.

I just started using the air brush machine. My goal was for everything to just look smooth and not blotchy.

This was my second attempt on making fondant bows. I had a lot of fun making this cake!

When I started carving cakes, I started simple. I used buttercream icing, my airbrush machine and some fondant for the wheels and axels.

This cake was for my boss at school. It was my first attempt at making fondant bows. When she got the cake, she made the 5 look like a 3. She didn't want to admit that she was turning 50!

My sweet sister-in-law celebrated her birthday this year and she picked this cake out. It is buttercream icing with fondant decorations.

This is my second attempt on carving a cake. This was my first attempt at layering colors using the air brush machine. It was completely covered in fondant. It took me awhile to finish it, but it was worth every minute. I learned so much.
