Monkey Cake

This cake was made for a sweet little girl celebrating her 2nd birthday. I had a lot of fun figuring out how to make this. I will admit that the monkey took two tries. The first time I made the head and the body out of cake. Well, it fell apart on me and I had to try something else. I decided to make the head out of Styrofoam so it would be lighter. It worked. I also didn't trim as much cake from the body so it held together better than the first attempt. The monkey arms, legs, and tail are made out of fondant as well as the bird and the half eaten banana.
I was terrified to travel with this cake. I had so many dowel rods going through each layer and many going through all the layers. I was nervous the whole morning until I got the call that the cake made it just fine. It had to travel two hours!!! A high five to the dad that picked it up and was so super careful in making sure it got home to his wife and sweet birthday girl!!
I did not come up with this design. It of course looks wonderful and the original designers are amazing! One day, I know I will be able to be that good!! Practice, practice, practice!! Lucky for me...that practice is so much fun!!!! =o)

Two Sided Cake

I made this cake for two sweet girls that were celebrating their birthday together with one party. One side had an A and the other had a M. I made an 11 and a 14 out of fondant so each girl could take pictures with her side of the cake and blow out candles.

Wonder Pets are on their way...to save a baby animal and save the day!

I got an order for two dozen cupcakes and they could be anything Wonder Pets. Having free reign to create, I went online and found pictures of the sweet little classroom pets. I decided that I would create pictures of each Wonder Pet, their vehicle (a flying boat) and their symbol. I left four cupcakes with just plain icing for anyone that didn't like fondant. To decorate each cupcake, I cut out white fondant circles and drew each picture with food coloring pens.

Movies & Popcorn

This cake is actually a remake. I have changed a few things to make it better and over all I like it so much more than the one I made a few years ago. I added more color and changed the design just a little. It was really exciting getting an order for a cake that I designed all by myself!

Groom's Red Velvet Cake

Sorry, I know the pictures are not great and the cake is sitting in the box, but this was the first chance I got to take pictures. The cake is red velvet with cream cheese icing. It has chocolate covered strawberries sitting on top of chocolate shavings.

Alabama Hounds-tooth Cake

Can I just say that this is one of my favorite cakes EVER!!!! It is also the first time I have ever used an edible image! SO MUCH FUN!!!! I love how it makes the "A" pop! I was going to fill it in, but it looked so good just outlined. The picture just doesn't do it justice. I wish everyone could have seen it in person! The glare on the cake doesn't help either. Where is Emily or Page when I need their photography expertise the most? Just kidding guys...I love you!

Auburn

The colors get better each time I make them! This cake was for a previous student! I love making cakes for them! Happy Birthday Parker!!! I hope it was great!!!

Alabama vs. Auburn

I realize it looks more like Georgia versus Florida, but I just could not get the colors right. I have finally nailed the colors though...see my next few posts. Luckily the mom to be loved it anyway! I made this cake for a baby shower. The mom and dad were for opposing teams so they did a half and half baby shower. The whole room was divided and the cake sat in the middle! So much fun!!

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas....or birthday

I made this cake for a sweet friend's little boy. He LOVES hippos! So a mama hippo and baby hippo were purchased (I am not that good a sculpture) and I created their jungle surroundings. It was a ton of fun to make.

Toy Story: Woody Cake

I had the most fun making this cake. My original plan was to make Woody's bed and have toys on the floor. But because I didn't make up my mind in time, it proved a little difficult finding the toys. So I started looking again and I am so glad because I found this idea. I know the inspiration cake looks a lot better, but I have to say I am proud of the way it turned out.

I don't think you can see this because of the glare, but the badge really does say "SHERIFF." I don't think I have ever written anything so small (with fondant) before!! And can I just say that threading fondant string through fondant isn't easy. But boy does it make all the difference!!

Woody's face - I hand painted this on fondant! The bandanna is fondant.

Belt Buckle. You just have to love a cowboy!!

Princess shoe on pillow cake

I got very excited when I received an order for a princess cake. I got excited because I love it when I hear the words, "Just make it cute. I trust you." The only thing she asked for was the colors to be lime green, purple and pink and to have a shoe on it. I went on a search for a really cute princess cake and found lots of ideas for pillow cakes. I just had to try it.
Both the base cake and the pillow are made out of white cake, iced with buttercream icing and decorated with marshmallow fondant.

Dots...dots...dots...

This cake was made for one of my great friend's daughter. Micah turned nine this week. As far as cake decorations were concerned, she knew exactly what she wanted. She was too cute when she told me her idea. A purple cake with lots of polka dots in bright colors...green, blue, and pink.
Happy Birthday Micah!!!
Underneath the marshmallow fondant you will find a marble cake slathered in buttercream icing.

Chrysanthemum Cake

This cake has a pretty cool story to it. I don't tell stories that well, but here it goes:
Last month I received an email requesting a cake. The lady that emailed me was from Texas, but throwing a baby shower here in Birmingham. I was very curious to find out how she found me. It turns out that her mother did a google search for specialty cakes and sent her several websites to choose from. I was very excited because she chose me!!
Well, when I delivered the cake, I ran into a girl that I knew from college. Turns out, she was related to the sweet girl that ordered the cake. Her mother even knows my brother-in-law.
Such a small world!!!

The top layer is white cake and the bottom layer is chocolate. It is iced with buttercream and decorated with marshmallow fondant.

Prince Cake

I made this cake for a sweet little boy named Isaac that is turned one! This is his smash cake. I will have to get the picture of his actual cake. I let Page take it and I haven't gotten it from her yet.

Luau Party

My best friend turned 30 and we had a wonderful time celebrating. We had a Murder Mystery Dinner party. To find out all about it, you should go to Page's blog.
I got to make her cake!! Her favorite cake of all time is white cake. She is actually getting sad that her kids are getting old enough to pick out their own flavors (and it isn't white)! She only has two left that aren't old enough to give their cake flavor recommendations. I did make some chocolate cupcakes for the chocolate lovers attending.
The photo is courtesy of Page. She is a fabulous photographer and I wish she could photograph all of my cakes. She makes them look so much better!
I love you Page!!!

Congratulations Libby!!

I made this cake for my sister-in-law Libby. She graduated from high school this past month. The family had a party for her. We had so much fun just being together. Her graduation was great too. Love you Lib!

Pool Party Fun!

This cake was for my sister-in-law Micah. We celebrated her birthday today at her new condo at the clubhouse. It is a beautiful place. The left half of the cake is chocolate and the right is yellow. It is iced with homemade cream cheese icing and decorated with homemade marshmallow fondant. Happy Birthday Micah Hope!!

Penguins and Igloos in June?

Yep! A sweet little six year old ask her mother if she could have a cake with 6 penguins on ice and an igloo on top of her birthday cake. How absolutely adorable is that? I was thrilled to make it. Each little penguin was fun to create and the igloo was even more so. I used cake to shape the igloo and rice krispies for the door. She requested a marble cake with butter-cream icing. It is covered with my homemade marshmallow fondant.
Happy Birthday Audrey!!

Handy Manny!!

This cake was made for one of the sweetest little boys at my church. His parents say he looks a little like Handy Manny. Andrew, I hope your first birthday was fantastic!!
Sorry this pictures are a little blurry. I could not get my camera to work right.
I hand cut out each shape and drew all the details.

French Horn Cake

This was a cake I was excited about making. I liked the challenge of making the French Horn. The birthday boy loves all things musical and plays the French Horn. Thomas, I hope your birthday was wonderful!

I made this cake last year for ECCS' 5th and 6th graders. This year I had the privilege of making it for the 5th graders. Congratulations new Logic school students!! I'm going to miss seeing you downstairs.

Graduation Cake

This cake is for a graduate from Leeds High School. She will be attending Alabama in the fall. It is a red velvet cake with fluffy white icing and fondant decorations. It was also served with white and chocolate cupcakes iced with fluffy white icing. I will try to get some pictures with everything loaded up soon.

Graduation Cake

I made this cake for a Briarwood graduate. He is going to Mississippi State in the fall. His mom asked me to put the Mississippi State logo on the cake so both high school and college could be represented. Congratulation Zach! Good Luck!
