Nintendo DS

My daughter turned seven today! I just cannot believe it! Why do the years have to pass by so quickly?
Well, she has been asking for a Nintendo DS for almost a year. We kept telling her that we did not think she was old enough to have one yet. After watching her the past six months we noticed that she was being very responsible with her MP3 player that she got for Christmas and then we saw an amazing deal on the DS- so we did it - we got her one.
Hannah let me surprise her with a cake this year instead of picking one out for herself. I thought it would be fun to make her cake look just like her gift. Even after seeing the cake, she still had no idea that she was getting a DS because she knew we thought she was too young. She was so excited when she opened her gift.

Here comes Spiderman!

Each layer is white cake except the building on top is yellow. It is iced in buttercream icing and decorated with marshmallow fondant.

Sharks!!!! Get out of the water!!!

The first layer of this cake is french vanilla and the second layer is chocolate. It is decorated in buttercream icing.

Giddy Up!!

This cake was a lot of fun to make. Again, The Pink Cake Box gave me inspiration (ok, so I pretty much just copied it). The lucky little girl that is getting this cake is also getting a horse for her birthday!! The cake is butter with buttercream icing and decorated with marshmallow fondant.

Mermaid Cake

I made this cake for my sweet little niece Lily. She was having an under the sea party and what goes better with that than mermaids! I had so much fun making this cake. I cannot take credit for the idea. I found a gorgeous cake to replicate on flicker . I was not brave enough to make the mermaid out of fondant, but found the doll worked out just as well.
I was making the wedding cake and this cake at the same time so I enlisted some help from my sister-in-law Libby. She made cute little Flounder and the patches of seaweed in the corners of the cake board. She also made some super cute sting rays too. We stayed up late and had some fun. Thanks Libby for the help! And Lily I hope your birthday was wonderful. I know we had fun at the party!

Baby Shower

I was asked to make a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and to decorate it with green and blue polka dots. The little fondant baby was an added bonus. Baby showers are always so sweet and special. Welcome little one!

Summer Fun!

One of my close friends is a teacher. She wanted a cake for her classes end of the year party. She gave me the libery to pick the design and this is what I came up with.
The cake is white cake with buttercream icing. It is decorated with marshmallow fondant.

Congratulations Jessica!

I was so excited about this cake. Why do you ask? Well, Jessica found my blog online and emailed me about making her a cake. She was my first cake order from my blog!! She has great tastes in cakes too!! She emailed me a couple of ideas and decided on this design.
The cakes are strawberry and chocolate with buttercream icing and decorated with marshmallow fondant.
Thank you Jessica for taking a chance on me. I hope your graduation was wonderful and I hope the cake tasted great! Good luck in college!

Yep, it is another award!

***Clapping*** And this award goes too....(drum roll please!)... Yes, I was asked to make another cake award. The orders were placed by two different people. And I have to say that I was looking forward to making this one (that is not to say I was not excited about making the other one). I was asked to put a high heel on the cake and I really wanted to try making one out of fondant. I think it turned out pretty well. I hope I will get to make a pair of them in the near future! =o)

Wisdom Award

And the award goes too....Okay, so you don't see very many awards made out of cake so I was shooting in the dark on this one. I was asked to come up with an award for a sweet friend of mine. She is such a godly person and so I tried to make a little figure of her reading the Bible. I will say that I did not do her justice. But hey, it was my first try in making a person out of fondant. I will give it more time to set before putting it together and it should not look so wide in the future.

The fifth and sixth grade were graduating into the Logic school and I was asked to make the cake for the graduation. The ECCS logo was requested to go on it. I was a little nervous at first because I had to do all of this upside down - even the words! I think it turned out pretty well though. I was pretty excited because this is the largest cake I have ever made before! A full sheet cake is huge!!!
The cake is white cake with buttercream icing.
This cake was so much fun to make! It was for an end of the year Science club party.

This cake is white cake with buttercream icing. The science man was made out of fondant. I just love his facial expression.

This cake was for a baby shower. They wanted a simple buttercream icing with a simple flowers design and monogram center.

Troy Trojans

This cake was for a repeat customer. Her husband graduated from Troy and is a huge Trojans fan. I found the Troy logo on Troy's website and did my best to mimic it. I think it turned out pretty well. This cake is white cake with buttercream icing.

Spring Garden

This cake was made for someone who loves to garden so I made some really pretty flowers to go all over and around the cake. It was a lot of fun to work on.

Wizard of Oz!

This cake was for a drama group that performed The Wizard of Oz. Each layer represents part of the story. The bottom layer is the blue and white gingham check of Dorothy's dress. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but there are "brick" impression to represent the yellow brick road on the middle layer. The top layer was the emerald city. Then of course I put the lion, tin man, and scarecrow on the side.
I made two layers chocolate cake and one white. Everything was iced in buttercream and covered in marshmallow fondant.

The principal at Evangel celebrated her birthday this past week. She was going to the beach so I made a cake that was fun and colorful.
The cake was chocolate with buttercream icing an covered in marshmallow fondant.

Triangles, Triangles, Triangles!!!

A fifth grade teacher at Evangel just celebrated her birthday. She is a sweet friend and a great teacher. The triangle has special meaning to her in many ways (it stands for the trinity, math equations, and a few other things she teachs). So to celebrate her birthday, I made her a triangle cake. I hope your birthday was wonderful Audrey!!!

Electronic Keyboard

I have had a pretty busy week making cakes! I have enjoyed every minute of it because they have been cakes that I have not made before. One of my repeat customers asked me to make this keyboard for her son because he is taking lessons. Happy Birthday Tanner!

The cake was chocolate with buttercream icing and decorated with marshmallow fondant.

RipStik Cake

I was super excited when a mom of one of my old students called and asked me to make his birthday cake. He requested a RipStik. If you do not know what one is, it is a new kind of skateboard. Instead of four wheels, it has two and you can maneuver it by twisting each side in opposite directions. They are really neat, but I'm sure I would break a leg or twist an ankle if I tried to ride one.

After I got the request, I did some research online and found some pretty good pictures to inspire me. I am really happy with the way it turned out. Of course, I have a few ideas to improve my design....If I am asked to make another one, I want to put wheels under it and have each side of the RipStick twisted opposite of each other.

Happy Birthday Luke!! I hope your day was great!!!!

The cake is chocolate with buttercream icing and covered in marshmallow fondant.
