RipStik Cake

I was super excited when a mom of one of my old students called and asked me to make his birthday cake. He requested a RipStik. If you do not know what one is, it is a new kind of skateboard. Instead of four wheels, it has two and you can maneuver it by twisting each side in opposite directions. They are really neat, but I'm sure I would break a leg or twist an ankle if I tried to ride one.

After I got the request, I did some research online and found some pretty good pictures to inspire me. I am really happy with the way it turned out. Of course, I have a few ideas to improve my design....If I am asked to make another one, I want to put wheels under it and have each side of the RipStick twisted opposite of each other.

Happy Birthday Luke!! I hope your day was great!!!!

The cake is chocolate with buttercream icing and covered in marshmallow fondant.

I love Lucy!

This is my first request for an "I love Lucy" cake. At first I was not sure about how I was going to decorate it. There were not very many ideas on the net so I just googled "I love Lucy." I found the traditional heart with the logo, but I wanted to do something a little more. Then I found this picture of her. I thought I would give it a try. After all, if it didn't work, I could always go to the fall back option and put the heart on top of the cake.

This is what I found.

This is what I came out with.
I don't think it is too bad considering I have
never put a face on a cake before (second time
if you count General Grievous).

I even added the hearts around the side.

The cake is chocolate with buttercream icing. The hearts are made out of marshmallow fondant.

Twilight cookies

I was invited to a Twilight DVD release party. I wanted to bring something easy to eat and fun to make. After making the cookies for Evangel, I was itching to try some more. This party gave me the perfect opportunity!!
They are sugar cookies decorated with royal icing.

Spring is here!!

Well, Spring will be here Friday!!

My niece, Ava, turned two on Saturday! She is adorable. She loves to dance and sing and has so much energy! I was thrilled when her mother (my awesome sister-in-law, Emily) said that I could make her cake!!! I immediately thought of this cake. I modified it a little because we did not need to feed a ton of people!!! Happy birthday sweet little Ava!!

I made this cake from scratch. I got the yellow cake recipe from Bakerella although I used my own buttercream icing recipe. I then covered the cake in marshmallow fondant.

Cookies?

I know, I know....My blog says cakes by Delilah! So why is there a post with cookies? Well, the fourth grade at Evangel has a Medieval Feast to celebrate all of their hard work (they study this time period). In the past they have had some really cute cookies in the shape of crowns, shields and fleur de lis'. Since I like to decorate, one of the teachers asked me to make them 90 cookies. I figured decorating a cookie wouldn't be too different than decorating a cake. Besides, I have always wanted to try the flooding technique. I am glad that I did this because I had so much fun!! I can't wait to try other designs.

Here are some of my results. I will say that if they ask me to make some next year I will rotate the color of the dam around the cookie and the color of the flooded icing. I like that look better.

Great Expectations

The sixth grade at Evangel reads the book - Great Expectations. After their study, they have a party. They choose a character from the book and dress up. Their teacher asked me to make a wedding cake that was really old and never eaten. (The reason for the old cake is explained in the book...you will have to read it to find out why. I won't ruin it for you!) She supplied me with candy rats and I just had fun decorating it. I know the cake looks gross, but it is supposed to!! I even colored the cake batter green to make it look moldy! The students loved it! My favorite part is the rat coming out of the cake....look real close on the top tier! Over to the right...this little guy ate his way through the side and was working his way out of the top!! Just in case you can't see it, here is a close up.

I love Unicorns!!

One of my friends has a daughter that loves horses, unicorns, Pegasus...if it looks like a horse-she loves it. I made her cake last year and it had just a normal horse on it. This year she wanted unicorns...next year will be probably be a Pegasus. She loved the cake. Happy Birthday Melody!! The cake is chocolate with buttercream icing.

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

I have a repeat customer that I appreciate so much! Her son is a huge Alabama fan so I made a cake that represented his passion! Happy Birthday Luke and Roll Tide!!! It is made with chocolate cake and covered in buttercream icing.
